Dean emeritus Jacqueline Dunbar-Jacob named Caregiver Champion

UPMC Senior Services and UPMC Western Behavioral Health have honored the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing’s dean emeritus with a prestigious award.

Dean Emeritus Jacqueline Dunbar-Jacob, PhD, RN, FAAN, was named the 2023 Caregiver Champion during the organization’s annual Celebrating Champions Dinner and Auction on October 25, 2023.

“I am deeply honored to be recognized as a Caregiver Champion by the UPMC Senior Communities and Western Behavioral Health,” said Dr. Dunbar-Jacob. “Right now, there is no stronger need than in the geriatric and mental health domains of care.  It is a privilege to be a part of the health professions community engaged in direct care of the individual and/or their family caregiver, in the education of caregivers, in advocacy, and/or in policy initiatives.”

According to the organizations, “Dr. Dunbar-Jacob has played a prominent role in the nursing community, shaping generations of caregivers. She has had a significant impact on our community broadly and specifically to the psychiatric mental health nurse community.”

Dunbar-Jacob led the School of Nursing for over two decades, from 2001-2022.

Congratulations, Dr. Dunbar-Jacob!
