Profile

Dr. Sasala received his BSN from Duquesne University in 2014 and his DNP in Nurse Anesthesia from the University of Pittsburgh in 2019. His DNP project evaluated cost effectiveness of intravenous propofol monotherapy compared to intravenous combination sedation in patients undergoing outpatient gastrointestinal endoscopy, which was published in the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists Journal.

Clinical Emphasis

Dr. Sasala has been working as a full-time Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist since 2020. He is currently practicing at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital. He also provides anesthesia under an independent practice model at UPMC Digestive Health and Endoscopy Center.

Scholarly Emphasis

Dr. Sasala is interested in the implementation of clinical care protocols, Point of Care Ultrasound, competency-based education, and human simulation educational methodology.

Teaching

Dr. Sasala teaches both undergraduate and DNP students. He assists in teaching Professional Issues in Advanced Practice Nursing: Nurse Anesthesia for undergraduate nursing students. His areas of teaching within the Nurse Anesthesia Program include pathophysiology and pharmacology. He also participates in various simulation education workshops throughout the curriculum. As a faculty member, Lane will be teaching in the Basic Principles of Anesthesia Course, the Undergraduate Honors Course, and across the Advanced Principles of Anesthesia Course series (1-3).  He will also chair and be a member of several DNP scholarly projects.

Service

Dr. Sasala serves on the Nurse Anesthesia Program Clinical Advisory Board (CAB) and Admissions Committee.  Dr. Sasala is an active member of the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists and the Pennsylvania Association of Nurse Anesthetists.
