Lacey W. Heinsberg
PhD, RN
Assistant Professor
Health Promotion & Development
Profile
Dr. Heinsberg has methodological expertise in genetic- and genomic-based research approaches. She is a member of the Obesity, Lifestyle, and Genetic Adaptations (OLAGA, meaning “life” in Samoan) study group, which uses a life course approach to understand health and wellness among Samoans and other Pacific Islanders. Her primary research focuses on identifying genomic, environmental, and behavioral factors contributing to the early life origins of obesity-related chronic disease, with an emphasis on pregnancy and early childhood. In addition to this work, she collaborates on genomic research in diverse populations, including studies on subarachnoid hemorrhage, traumatic brain injury, and preeclampsia.
Dr. Heinsberg’s research portfolio is distinguished by securing grants as Principal Investigator from the National Institutes of Health, the American Nurses Foundation, Rockefeller University, Sigma Nursing, and more. Her background in civil engineering complements her nursing expertise, enriching her research approaches, methodologies, and viewpoints. Beyond her research endeavors, Dr. Heinsberg is passionate about coaching others in R programming, statistical genetics, and generative AI.
In her free time, she enjoys running, biking, CrossFit, reading, eating chocolate croissants, and spending time with the people and animals she loves.
