Profile

Maria is a Registered Dietitian. She has a strong interest in teaching nutrition with an emphasis of clinical application in the healthcare setting specifically focusing on nursing. She joined Pitt Nursing as a part-time instructor last year. Maria earned her Masters of Science in Clinical Dietetics and Nutrition from the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences.

Maria teaches the undergraduate Nutrition for Clinical Practice course and the Nutrition Independent Study. Maria is a Renal Dietitian at Dialysis Clinic Inc. Previously worked at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, experienced working with variety of populations and settings, such as rehabilitation, intensive care, hepatology, renal, cardiology, cardiothoracic, trauma, abdominal transplant, heart and lung transplant, oncology, neurology, gastrointestinal surgery, and general medicine in an inpatient setting and OB/GYN, diabetes, and weight loss in an outpatient setting.

Working with many members of the healthcare team on a daily basis, she recognizes the importance that nurses have in a clinical setting and the nutrition knowledge they must possess to be successful nurses.
