Profile

Dr. Mary Hoberg is an Assistant Professor of Nursing in the Department of Health Promotion and Development. She is the primary didactic faculty for the undergraduate women’s health nursing course, focusing on the care of mothers, newborns, and families. With over 14 years of experience in perinatal settings, including neonatal intensive care, high-risk antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum care, Dr. Hoberg is dedicated to promoting the health and wellness of women’s health populations. 

 

Dr. Hoberg earned her BSN from the University of Pittsburgh in 2010, her MSN in Nursing Education from Robert Morris University in 2019, and her PhD in Nursing from the University of Pittsburgh in 2022. 

 

Her primary research interests include the screening, diagnosis, and management of perinatal mental health conditions, with a focus on postpartum anxiety. Her doctoral research aimed to differentiate between generalized and postpartum-specific anxiety in women’s health populations in an effort to improve screening methods. 

Dr. Hoberg's secondary research interests involve advancing the science of teaching and learning in undergraduate nursing education through innovative instruction techniques and AI applications (e.g., adaptive tutoring and mental health support). She is also interested in digital health literacy as it pertains to healthcare provider training and preparation for job entry. 

Dr. Hoberg is an active member of Sigma Theta Tau and the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetrics, and Neonatal Nurses. Dr. Hoberg also serves on the editorial advisory board for the Journal of Obstetrics, Gynecologic, and Neonatal Nursing.
