- BEWARE of Predatory journals.
These are publishing outlets that publish for profit. There is a lack of review for the quality and legitimacy of the work, and dissemination is poor.
“Predatory journals and publishers are entities that prioritize self-interest at the expense of scholarship and are characterized by false or misleading information, deviation from best editorial and publication practices, a lack of transparency, and/or the use of aggressive and indiscriminate solicitation practices.” https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-019-03759-y
Steps to identify Predatory journals:
- Familiarize yourself with what these journals are and how they market
- Ask yourself:
- Does the journal have an impact factor?
- Is it indexed in standard bibliographic databases such as CINAHL and Medline?
