Two Pitt Nursing faculty members were honored during the Nightingale Awards of Pennsylvania’s 34th annual gala and celebration on October 27, 2023.
Elizabeth Schlenk, PhD, RN, CNL, FAAN, associate professor and associate dean for graduate clinical education received the award for Nursing Education – Academia, while Marci Nilsen, PhD, RN, FAAN, assistant professor was an award finalist for Nursing Research.
"I believe that the pursuit of knowledge is the light guiding us to a brighter future,” said Dr. Schlenk. “As a nurse educator, I'm humbled by the opportunity to inspire the next generation of nurses and nurse researchers, igniting their passion for learning. This award signifies our commitment to the relentless pursuit of excellence in research and nursing education."
In addition, PhD student Alice Cline, MSN, CNM, was recognized as the recipient of the PhD Scholarship.
The Nightingale Awards of Pennsylvania is a non-profit organization with a statewide presence and is dedicated to recognizing outstanding nurses across ten distinct categories. The organization also grants scholarships to students pursuing nursing degrees at all levels. In its 32-year history, NAP has distributed over $410,000 in nursing scholarships, benefitting over 200 students. Additionally, more than 800 exceptional nurses have been recognized during its annual gala.
