MSN and DNP Minors

Students may choose a major within the MSN and DNP programs and supplement the knowledge and skills by adding a minor or a second skill set. This increases marketability and professional opportunity following program completion. The School of Nursing offers the following minors:

Gerontology Minor for Nurse Practitioners

An 8-credit Gerontology Minor for Nurse Practitioners (NP) can be obtained by DNP students who are enrolled in the Family (Individual Across the Lifespan) Nurse Practitioner (FNP) DNP or the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) DNP area of concentration.

Health Care Genetics

Genetic based medicine is routinely becoming a part of daily health care, deeply impacting patient diagnosis, prognosis and treatment. Nurses need to understand how genetics impacts their patient care and this 12-credit minor will prepare them for the medical advances that are occurring in the field of health care genetics.

Nursing Informatics

The Nursing Informatics Minor will appear on the transcripts of graduates, giving evidence of the fact that they had a concentration of courses in the area of Nursing Informatics. Students who complete the program will have specialized Nursing Informatics training that will increase their marketability. The minor involves the completion of a minimum of 11 credits of coursework.

Nursing Administration

Courses in the Nursing Administration minor focus on management in complex social and operational systems for healthcare delivery.  Attention is given to applying role-related knowledge and skills in diverse settings and populations, including acute care, long term care, psychiatric, and community. The minor in Nursing Administration requires 10 credits, including a 3-credit practicum.
