Lisa Foertsch

Profile
Lisa Foertsch is an assistant professor in the Acute and Tertiary Department. She has been at the school of nursing for the last 15 years, an Assistant Professor for the last 10 years. Lisa started with a diploma in nursing from Shadyside Hospital School of Nursing, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from LaRoche College, then a Master of Science in Nursing from Indiana University with an education specialty. She completed her Doctor of Nursing Practice in 2013 with a Clinical Nurse Specialist Concentration. Her primary didactic course is NUR1990, Senior Seminar. Her additional teaching responsibilities include clinical instruction with both traditional undergraduates and ABSN students.
The present clinical emphasis and teaching is at UPMC Magee Women’s Hospital on a surgical, gynecology-oncology unit. Care of surgical patients and teaching surgical post-operative nursing care to students has been a career love and interest. The specialty of Oncology nursing and women’s health in the clinical setting is a career interest. A published completed improvement project focused on surgical site infection surveillance for patients on discharge, the project was adopted at this hospital.
Lisa received a distinguished clinical scholar award in 2020, research focused on student nurses utilizing a clinical judgment care plan form vs. the traditional care plan form. She worked closely with faculty peers to implement this clinical judgment care plan in the clinical medical-surgical courses. Her work was presented this past year, 2022 at an International Nursing Conference. She continues to work on evaluation methods and teaching methods to improve student learning outcomes and improve student test taking.
