Profile

Dr. Megan Kazakoff is an Assistant Professor of Nursing in the Department of Health and Community Systems. After years of working in long term care and hospice settings, she has the experience and passion to educate various levels of nursing professionals about post-acute, long term and palliative care in the community setting

Clinical Emphasis

Megan Kazakoff maintains her clinical practice as a primary care nurse practitioner caring for adults and older adults at Associates in Family Healthcare Center in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. As a primary clinician, Megan’s concentrations include managing complex chronic conditions and continuously assessing cognitive function.

Scholarly Emphasis

Her scholarly interests include disease prevention with particular emphasis on pressure injury prevention in long term care residents. She is currently working with local facilities to develop a patient centered protocol to prevent wound incidence in those at high risk. She has presented and published on a variety of clinical education topics and is passionate about ensuring valuable experiences for nursing students in long term care facilities to improve their understanding of the complex needs of older adults.  

Teaching

Megan is committed to evidenced based teaching strategies and assessment techniques. She has taught in both the undergraduate and graduate programs in the classroom and the clinical environment and is the coordinator for the AGPCNP-C program.

Service

Dr. Kazakoff is committed to promoting the roll of the nurse practitioner in providing high level quality medical care to older adults in her community. She is an active member of The American Geriatrics Society and is on the membership board for the Nurse Practitioner Association of Southwestern Pennsylvania. Megan works with other members of the Hartford organization and Jewish Healthcare Foundation on the Age-Friendly 4Ms care model as well as the revisiting the teaching nursing home collaborative.
