Pitt’s undergraduate nursing program is No. 4 (tie) in the nation, according to U.S. News & World Report

The University of Pittsburgh’s undergraduate nursing program is among the top in the nation, according to the 2025 U.S. News & World Report’s Best College rankings.

Pitt Nursing jumped six spots to tie for No. 4 — the highest ranking in the BSN’s history.

“This ranking reflects the stature of our nursing program and its long legacy of excellence,” said Anantha Shekhar, Pitt’s senior vice chancellor for the health sciences and the John and Gertrude Petersen Dean of the School of Medicine. “It is a testament to the caliber, talent and commitment of our faculty and staff.”

The BSN joins other highly ranked Pitt Nursing programs, including the Nurse Anesthesia DNP program, tied at No. 2; the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner DNP program, No. 5; the Doctor of Nursing Practice program, tied at No. 11 and the School of Nursing’s online MSN program, tied at No. 14.

“We could not be more pleased with this fitting recognition,” said Christine E. Kasper, dean of the School of Nursing. “This year, we received the most applications in the school’s history and enrolled one of our largest classes, welcoming 250 first-year students. Prospective students are aware of the quality of our program, which has long been top tier. Year after year, we graduate highly prepared nursing professionals and leaders to meet the nursing shortage in Pennsylvania and nationally. Our alumni provide leadership and care wherever they serve. They make us proud.”

Along with the Pittsburgh campus, the BSN program is also housed on Pitt’s Johnstown and Greensburg campuses. This fall, 38 first-year nursing students entered the program at Pitt Johnstown, and 46 students enrolled at Pitt Greensburg.

Pitt’s undergraduate nursing students represent 29 states and four countries.
